Installation of arts with FALCON BEAM 2

Darkness 1816 is a sound & light installation of a world in shadow by Beate Schüler (Artistic Direction), Werner Cee (Sound) and Klaus Grünberg (Light), produced by Lucid Dream ug.

Inspired by the volcanic eruption of the Indonesian volcano Tambora in 1815, a gigantic climatic catastrophe in Europe, Asia and North America was the consequence in 1816  - known today as the “year  without a summer”.

The Technical Director Hans-Jürgen Müller asked AO Lighting for a special lighting fixture for the project. Finally a FALCON BEAM 2 xenon searchlight was used as light source. A single beam of light in a special tone of orange-red was directed to the building and creeps into the room through very small light gaps of the window shutters. Light, sounds and texts interact and create a melancholic and infernal atmosphere.

The installation was a part of the KunstFestSpiele Herrenhausen at the “Herrenhausen Gardens” in Hannover as well as the Schumann Festival Düsseldorf at “Benrath Palace”.

Autostadt Wolfsburg invests in pioneering plasma technology from A&O Technology

What must be the world’s largest Advent candles in the shape of the chimneys of the old power station in the Autostadt Wolfsburg are now being lit using pioneering and sustainable luminaires from A&O Technology. With its investment in German-made FALCON® SPELIA Arc plasma floodlights, the Autostadt is not only setting new standards in terms of eco-friendliness but also achieving an energy saving in the illumination of the power station of around 75%.

Year in, year out. This is now the 15th year in succession that the Autostadt Wolfsburg has transformed its theme park during Advent into a winter wonderland. The magical set is dominated this year, as always, by the historic chimneys, bathed in red light to look like giant candles. This year, the Autostadt has scaled new heights not only with the overall concept of the Winter Wonderland but with its illumination, making use here for the first time of A&O Technology’s sustainable plasma technology to light up the iconic chimneys. The lighting specialist has been responsible for the winter illumination of the chimneys now for 15 years but has come up with a first this year: for the first time, the innovative products of the FALCON SPELIA Arc series are being exposed to sustained use.

FALCON© Searchlights enthuse over 2.6 million at open air events

Autumn is coming, and the 2015 season of open air events and festivals in Europe is coming to an end. A&O Technology, manufacturer and distributor of FALCON searchlights, is drawing a highly positive balance for the season.

At many of the most important festivals this year, FALCONs were used to make statements in light that were visible for miles around. Despite highly changeable weather – with a July heat wave followed by torrential rain in August and intermittent storms all summer long – the German-made searchlights proved, by their complete indifference to the elements, not only heroic effects engines but also true ‘men of the north’.

A&O Creative designed light shows for Sail Bremerhaven

For Sail Bremerhaven 2015, A&O Creative created light shows in the harbour. The lighting, laser and pyro displays enthused the international spectators.

Together with teams from Comet Feuerwerk and laserfabrik show laser A&O Creative coordinated the lighting and laser elements with the altitude fireworks. With its musical accompaniment, the light, laser and pyrotechnic show illuminated the coast three evenings in a row. This new attraction proved one of the highlights of this year’s festival.

In addition, A&O Creative staged a light show in the old harbour in which FALCON CMY LED-VIDEO LED/xenon hybrid searchlights performed each evening their elaborate choreography in the night sky.

FALCON searchlights conjure magical moments at Tomorrowland

For the first time, FALCON searchlights have been integrated into the imaginative design of the main stage at the Tomorrowland festival. The robust searchlights proved once again that they also make ideal festival luminaires. Their exceptionally far-reaching, colour-drenched lighting effects turned the festival’s main event this year into a truly vibrant spectacle.

When colourful internationalism, the beats of electronic music and surreal mysticism come together, the ravers gather at the Tomorrowland Festival near Boom in Belgium. This year, some 180,000 of them braved the storms, the rain and the sunshine. The open-air festival featured a gigantic stage, 60 metres high and 140 metres wide, in the form of a fairy-tale castle, realized in loving detail. A lavish array of effects were also employed.

Tomorrowland’s lighting designer, Sander Den Otter, succeeded brilliantly in integrating the FALCONs into the spectacular overall image, managing, on the one hand, to project the stage show far into the night sky with the FALCON BEAM 7,000W, and, on the other, to realize a beautiful illumination of the festival grounds behind the main stage. Bright moving lights from the FALCON range complemented the music, waterfalls, pyrotechnic and other lighting effects that made up the opulent Tomorrowland show.

According to the organizers, visitors from 200 nations flocked this year to the De Schorre National Park to celebrate with 300 of the most in-demand DJs on the planet, including David Guetta, Avicii, Hardwell, Armin van Buuren.

A&O Technology adds new brilliance to Dubai’s Burj Al Arab

Burj Al Arab of Jumeirah, the icon of Dubai and one of the most expensive and luxurious hotels in the world, now affords an even more glittering spectacle in the night sky. The exchange and programming of the new high-tech lighting system was performed by local partner A&O Technology.

Every evening, the Burj Al Arab offers a colourful light show. The changing hues and brilliant strobe effects enthuse millions of visitors to Dubai every year. The new strobe effects that frame the sail-shaped building are the highlight of the current light show at the Burj Al Arab. For the modernisation of the strobe lighting system, the hotel’s management relied on the experience and expertise of A&O Technology. A&O Technology employed climbers to complete the installation on the exoskeleton of the 321-metre-high building. The materials as well as the control and programming were also supplied by the Abu-Dhabi-based lighting company.

FALCON® SPELIA Range – Sulphur-plasma lighting systems from A&O Technology

The sulphur-plasma luminaires of the FALCON SPELIA series mark a revolution in lighting technology. With an operating life of up to 50,000 hours and up to 165 lm/W, SPELIA is currently one of the most energy-efficient lamps on the market. It combines cost-effectiveness with environmentally friendly qualities and versatility. FALCON SPELIA lighting systems are suitable for a wide range of locations, including architectural installations, greenhouses, streets, places of entertainment, factories, offices and even residential buildings.

Sulphur-plasma light not only enhances the quality of life of human beings but also, thanks to its continuous light spectrum, fosters the natural growth of plants. A&O Technology's in-house manufacturing division, alpha one GmbH, has developed a marketable sulphur-plasma lamp series that comes closer to natural sunlight than any other artificial light source, but with a UV content of less than one per cent! It is remarkable for its high energy efficiency and sustainability. With a power consumption of 1,000 watts, the lighting output of SPELIA systems is equivalent to that of a 3,000-watt xenon lamp.

Wherever people work with light, this technology has outstanding potential. "A&O Technology is already today offering market-ready solutions. Based on this mature technology, we can develop and manufacture different types of lamps — and even do so on a customer-specific basis to meet special challenges of all kinds," says Marco Niedermeier, the CEO of A&O Technology and alpha one.

The specialists: Arc, Green and Shot

Inaugurating the FALCON plasma range are three product types: SPELIA Arc, SPELIA Green and SPELIA Shot. Each specializes in a particular field of application and all are market-ready and available.

Gigantic tornado shows polo fans the place to be

As event partner of the Beach Polo Cup Dubai, A&O Technology created spectacular special effects with its FALCON luminaires and the FALCON Video shone in a new formation.

In a formation never before seen, the FALCON VIDEO luminaires framed the arena’s giant LED screen to create a LED wall. The hybrid searchlights were therefore in use throughout the event as a fixed component of the installation. Newly arrived in the UAE, the FALCON BEAM 2 drew gigantic tornados of light in the sky. At the same time, FALCON FLOWERs created flowers of light for the video projection. A&O Technology offered with its equipment particularly brilliant effects for this prestigious equestrian event. Lighting designer Sonu AB realized the creative and lighting concept of the show, which was developed by Mamemo Productions under the leadership of creative director Sam Katiela.

“Beach Polo Cup Dubai is a prestigious event combining first-class sport with high-end show elements and entertainment,” commented Marco Niedermeier, CEO of A&O Technology. “A&O Technology is proud to have been able to present the FALCON VIDEO in an unprecedented formation, thereby contributing an impressive light show to the production in the event arena.

FALCON® BEAM 2 – A&O Technology launches new searchlight

In the new FALCON BEAM 2, A&O Technology is bringing a brilliant new searchlight onto the market. With its extended feature set, the FALCON BEAM 2 is now the first choice for demanding illuminations in the fields of entertainment and architectural lighting.

Thanks to a new high-precision parabolic reflector with an ultra-reflective coating, the FALCON BEAM 2 guarantees dazzling brightness. The colour changer is based on the tried-and-tested technology of the FALCON range. The new luminaire also impresses with reduced power consumption and swift zoom progressions. Equally convincing is the increased speed of its pan and tilt movements.

Another plus: the compact searchlight takes up very little space for a device of such luminosity. Due to its aluminium and stainless steel construction the latest member of the FALCON range is also both robust and reliable. “The new FALCON BEAM 2 is the ideal choice for large lighting installations and events,” says Marco Niedermeier, CEO of A&O Technology. “It’s a versatile rock star for touring and events lighting and at the same time a true highlight of every architectural installation.”

The prolonged working life of the lamp, the low maintenance costs and highly efficient optics make the FALCON BEAM 2 a must for every lighting design. The latest member of the FALCON family had its baptism of fire at the opening of the Stage Theater in Hamburg. By any standards it proved an impressive debut.

A&O Creative stages multimedia show at Al Bahr towers

On the occasion of the 43rd National Day of the United Arabic Emirates, A&O Technology as general contractor with its creative department, A&O Creative, staged an impressive multimedia show at the Al Bahr towers in Abu Dhabi.

Anyone whose eyes were directed towards the Abu Dhabi skyline during the festivities, which lasted several days, could not have failed to notice the city’s magnificent twin towers, which were bathed in brilliant, changing colours. As general supplier, A&O Technology realized a dynamic, colourful 360° illumination of the Al Bahr towers. The company’s creative department, A&O Creative, used intensive colours to draw all eyes to the cocoon-like architecture. The futuristic towers were transformed one moment into a huge national flag, then bathed in a deep, marine blue that gave way in turn to shining white. A video projection on the façade complemented the light show. In whatever raiment they appeared, the evening choreography transformed the towers into dazzling highlights of the Abu Dhabi skyline.

Historic walls in multimedia Christmas light

Bremen’s St. Petri cathedral is bathed in bright colours while laser animations play across its façade to the accompaniment of Christmas sounds. For the second time this year, A&O Creative is turning the cathedral into the shining centrepiece of the market place.

It took less than two weeks to program the dynamic, colourful show and tailor it to the façade of the cathedral. The setting-up was accomplished in two nights. The fixtures used were SKY FALCON ARC colour 1200W architectural floodlights, high-powered lasers and gobo projectors. Meanwhile the spires of the dome were bathed in changing colours by FALCON BEAM colour 3000W searchlights.

FALCON BEAM 2 crowns the opening of the Stage Theater

In the FALCON BEAM 2, A&O Technology is introducing to the market a brilliant searchlight for rental applications. The new product range was deployed for the first time in a major production by director Jerry P. Appelt during the opening of the Stage Theatre on the Elbe in Hamburg.

For the production of the theatrical light and laser show, shipping on the Elbe was brought to a standstill for a quarter of an hour. During this time, the entire Hamburg harbour was filled with shining light. The background music was the overture to the musical “Das Wunder von Bern”, which had been chosen to open the inaugural season.

A&O Technology, which had been commissioned by PRG AG to provide the lighting equipment, supplied its newly launched FALCON BEAM 2 searchlights for their first live application on the banks of the Elbe. The German lighting designer Jerry P. Appelt integrated the searchlights into the lighting concept by installing some in four groups at the foot of the building along the riverside, whilst the main group was hoisted by cranes onto the roof of the new building.

A&O Creative with A&O Technology stages multimedia show in Riad

A&O Creative, with A&O Technology as Technical General Contractor for Fireworks by Grucci, stages an unprecedented multimedia show on the occasion of the Saudi National Day in Riyadh

The palatial Hotel Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Riyadh provided the backdrop recently for an impressive multimedia spectacle. It was the first time in Saudi Arabia that the different disciplines within a show were seen to interact.

To get a show in this unprecedented form up and running, A&O Technology summoned its best creative minds. The well-drilled A&O Creative team put together a complex multimedia show despite a very tight time frame of only four weeks. Whilst in classic productions, the disciplines (lighting, pyrotechnics, music...) take turns to occupy centre stage, the Saudi royal family, represented here by the Governor of Riyadh, Prince Turki bin Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, wanted something very special for this event: that all the professions should interact. So A&O Creative created the artistic concept for a show of exceptional quality to mark the 82nd anniversary of the formation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. At the same time, an extensive 3D mapping show was staged in the Saudi capital. The show’s Creative Director was the renowned lighting designer Jerry P. Appelt, who took charge of both the show concept and the lighting design.

The entire ochre front facade of the hotel complex was used here as a projection surface. As though on an oversized movie screen, the past, present and future of Saudi of Arabia with its capital Riyadh were depicted in sublime images and video sequences - accompanied by gripping music. Lights visible for miles around and an impressive firework display crowed the show, which drew an enthusiastic reception from the cream of Saudi society..

Aside from its creative contribution, A&O Technology was acting here as all-in-one supplier of the lighting, video and laser equipment. The magnificent fireworks were provided by the pyro specialists Fireworks by Grucci. "We worked hand-in-hand with Grucci to ensure the various elements of the show were perfectly coordinated. After collaborating with them on the projects for National Day in Doha and the 2013/14 New Year’s Eve celebrations at the Hotel Atlantis The Palm in Dubai, National Day in Riyadh was yet another joint project for the portfolio" says Marco Niedermeier, CEO of A&O Technology.

A&O Technology taking on new trainees

A&O Technology invests further in the future by taking on new trainees

August 2014, Bremen – The certificates are handed out and there are smiles on all faces. Six trainees in 2014 have successfully completed their training with A&O Technology either as industrial management assistants or as events technicians (speciality: lighting). No fewer than five of the six were immediately taken on by the company.

For over ten years, A&O Technology has been active as a company that takes on apprentices. The enterprise provides from its own ranks for the labour force of tomorrow. “We are committed to the future and to helping the youth of today, and sound enough financially to be able to provide in-house training,” says Marco Niedermeier, CEO. Already some twenty trainees have completed their training with A&O Technology. Most of them were taken on and continued their careers with the company; some later moved on to other companies within the industry or to other industries; some resumed their studies; most, however, are still with A&O Technology to this day. The investment in qualified personnel from its own ranks continues with the current generation of trainees: Patrik Osterloh, Minu Heydari, Akascha Schultz and Timm Peschel.

From the graduation class of 2014, A&O Technology has been able reinforce its workforce in all departments with qualified personnel, as all but one of the erstwhile trainees were taken on by the company. Fatma Bourkhis, Melanie Sager and Yunus Celik completed their training as industrial management assistants. Dennis Müller, Marvin Flöte and André Röbke graduated successfully as events technicians – speciality: lighting. Yunus Celik has strengthened the Rental department, whilst the main emphasis of Melanie Sager’s future activities will be in the Service department. Sadly, Fatma Bourkhis has moved away from the area and her services are therefore no longer available to the company.

Melanie Sager, newly qualified as an Industrial Management Assistant, has always wanted to work in the events industry, and her training with A&O Technology has only strengthened her enthusiasm. “The best thing about my training, and now my job, is the industry in which A&O Technology is engaged. There is nothing more satisfying in my opinion than to participate in the planning, organization and implementation of an event – especially if it is shown later on television,” she says, beaming. “With our projects, we get immediate feedback on the quality of our individual contributions. We are constantly faced with new challenges which, with the first class team A&O Technology has at its disposal, we are able to meet. It is in this, combined with the enormous variety of the projects themselves, that the greatest appeal of the industry lies, in my view.”

The trio of events technicians, Dennis Müller, André Röbke and Marvin Flöte, will continue to work as a team and continue to provide for “light moments” with A&O Technology. “From the start, I was encouraged to display a great deal of initiative,” says André Röbke, Events Technician (Speciality: Lighting). “I travel a great deal – only recently, abroad – and therefore work very flexible hours. I am constantly able to make new contacts, see different places and locations, and learn something different from each new production. There are always fresh challenges – not always in the technical implementation. And I can make use of my own experience. There is a wealth of diversity in all of this that I find great fun.”

Timm Klopp began his career ten years ago as a trainee with A&O Technology. Now, after completing a two-year course on day release in business administration, he is responsible as Senior Operations Manager not only for managing operations but also for supervising the training of the young people who will make up the company’s workforce tomorrow. “A&O Technology offers young people excellent prospects for the future,” he affirms. “Trainees grow into their jobs within the industry and move from department to department within the company. The events and architecture sector is many-facetted, and trainees quickly find themselves involved not only in national but also international projects. We are delighted that so many are staying with the company and to the continuing pleasure, therefore, of working with them.”

Wacken Open Air 2014

Lighting designer Jerry P. Appelt employs FALCONs at Wacken Open Air 2014

For the 25th anniversary of its inception, the bright beams of FALCON searchlights pointed the way to the world’s biggest heavy metal festival. Commissioned by PRG AG, A&O Technology supplied the FALCON BEAM 7,000W searchlights. These were integrated to spectacular effect by lighting designer Jerry P. Appelt into the overall picture.

The Bull’s Skull was in flames. Above it, beams of light fanned outward and upwards into the night sky. 75,000 fans cheered their bands. Motörhead, Slayer, Metallica, Megadeath and Saxon were just 4 of the 132 acts performing live this year in which the Wacken Open Air celebrated its 25th birthday.

For the heavy metal cult festival, which lasts several days, lighting designer Jerry P. Appelt had more that two dozen FALCON BEAM 7,000W searchlights installed on the main stage. From there, the tracer lights, arranged into three groups of six, supplied coloured highlights, fanned outward and upwards into the skies and discharged again and again their electronic strobes in a dry staccato – ever faithful to the motto   “Faster – Harder – Louder”.

The FALCONs were installed on the True Metal Stage and the Black Stage that alternated in the role of main stage. Between them was the Bull’s Skull, the emblem of the WOA. The searchlights, positioned on the wings and at the centre, emphasized the main stage, which extended over more than 40 square metres.

Parts of the concert were broadcast live on television. The Wacken Open Air is regarded as one of the Germany’s most important music festivals. A third of the fans – known as ‘metalheads’ – who attended the 40th Wacken Open Air Festival came from outside Germany. The 75,000 tickets for the Wacken Open Air 2015 sold out in 12 hours. A new record.

FALCON seminar

Creative Lighting Asia and A&O Technology present FALCON® seminar in the Galaxy Hotel, Macau

September 2014, Macau, China – Together with its regional project partner Creative Lighting Asia (CLA), A&O Technology organized recently a seminar to demonstrate the outstanding advantages and performance capabilities of the FALCON range. At the same time, the company presented the latest fruits of its plasma technology – Made in Germany.

In the Galaxy Hotel’s Oasis restaurant, Creative Lighting Asia had found the ideal setting in which to deliver a live professional presentation of the German-made FALCON range of luminaires to a high-calibre audience made up of representatives of the Asian market. The focus was upon the tried and tested xenon luminaires from A&O Technology. The prime objective of the seminar, to facilitate further progress in the Asian market through closer cooperation and the establishment of networks, was attained. The longstanding collaboration between Creative Lighting Asia and A&O Technology has been further strengthened by the fact that Andree Jahnel, for 10 years Senior Product Manager with A&O Technology, is now engaged as Technical Project Manager for the Asian concern and in a position therefore to intensify the continuous exchange. “We are delighted to have found a partner such as CLA,” adds Marco Niedermeier. “Each of us is of service to the other and we are confident that the excellent cooperation between our two companies will continue.”

CLA’s Marketing Manager Tim Bredbury delivered the opening address and introduced the various speakers. The first of these were Eddie Tang, Managing Director CLA, and Marco Niedermeier, CEO A&O Technology, who offered a brief outline of the cooperation between the two firms. Next came A&O Technology’s Senior Manager International Sales, Maros Kohut, who described the two companies’ joint sales concept, which is based on a regional project partnership. Andree Jahnel, Technical Project Manager CLA, and Oliver Ronshausen, Senior Product Manager A&O Technology, then elucidated various aspects of the lighting systems and their underlying technologies.

For demonstration purposes, the static architectural luminaires FALCON STATIC ARC white and FALCON STATIC ARC colour as well as the moving head FALCON BEAM ARC colour were installed on the presentation stage. Building on the success of its 3,000- to 7,000-watt FALCON series, the German company presented the revolutionary new FALCON SPELIA Arc series. This versatile washer, which employs sulphur-plasma technology, was being seen for the first time in Asia following its launch at this year’s Light + Building show in Frankfurt.

“This was not simply a product seminar,” stressed Marco Niedermeier. “What was far more important is that we were able to consolidate the fine relationship between our two companies. The close collaboration demonstrated to our high-calibre guests from within the industry that we act in a future- and customer-oriented way. The highly positive response we received convinced us that the evening was a great success, providing us with the ideal springboard to move ahead and sound out new projects.”

The renowned lighting designer and theatrical pedagogue Professor John A. Williams then gave a detailed report on his design concept for the Galaxy light show, in which for a number of years FALCON xenon luminaires have featured prominently. After a career spanning over 30 years as a lighting designer, Prof. Williams can look back on over 250 lighting projects. His works are scattered far and wide, from London’s West End to Hong Kong, Broadway and Macau. Dean of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Prof. Williams’ work in Asia includes the design of the world-famous Symphony of Lights in Hong Kong harbour, the world’s largest installed light show.

The seminar was conceived as a mixture of lectures and interactive presentations. The functions were demonstrated to the guests at the devices themselves. The light show that followed illustrated the brilliance and luminosity of the searchlights. The invited designers, specifiers, planners and architects followed the presentations with the greatest interest. The direct contact with these specialists led to interesting exchanges throughout the event. “The seminar provided us with an excellent opportunity to make not only our partner CLA but also other movers and shakers within the Asian market more familiar with the FALCON products,” said Oliver Ronshausen, Senior Product Manager A&O Technology: “This seminar confirmed me in the view that hands-on experience is far more convincing than dry theory. There was no mistaking the enthusiasm of our guests as they witnessed a live demonstration of the devices in operation. Naturally these our now at the disposal of Creative Lighting’s sales offices.”

The equipping of the much-loved Galaxy Laserama light show in the Galaxy Casino, Macau, is a joint project of the two companies Creative Lighting Asia and A&O Technology. During the first phase, in the years 2010 and 2011, eight FALCON BEAM ARC white 8,000W searchlights were delivered for the roofs of the first two buildings and a FALCON STATIC ARC white 7,000W for the pylon at the front. Following the popularity of what must be the world’s largest open-air laser and light show—certainly there is nothing like it in the region – a further twenty-eight FALCON BEAM ARC colour 4,000W and 7,000W fixtures were ordered for Phase Two this year. These have been installed on the roof of the third building complex, which is new, further enhancing the gigantic spectacle.

FALCON® SPELIA - The revolution in lighting technology

Each specializes in a particular field of application and all are market-ready and available now. The official launch took place at this year's Light+Building trade fair in Frankfurt am Main, where the first product types and their versatility were demonstrated.

FALCON® SPELIA Arc white - architectural lighting

The FALCON SPELIA Arc was specially conceived for outdoor architectural lighting. Low operating costs and an extremely long service life requiring few essential maintenance procedures are the outstanding virtues of this economical, high-powered washer. FALCON SPELIA Arc white is ideal for fixed installation in the context of XXL architectural lighting projects. A choice of lenses is available for this DMX-controlled system. A model with a colour-changer is set to follow shortly.

FALCON® SPELIA Green - greenhouse lighting

The FALCON SPELIA Green was developed for greenhouses. By imitating the continuous spectrum of sunlight, this lighting fixture encourages photosynthesis in plants and promises to revolutionize greenhouse cultivation. The FALCON SPELIA Green is specially adapted to greenhouse conditions such as high humidity and delivers homogeneous surface illumination.

FALCON® SPELIA Shot - film lighting

The FALCON SPELIA Shot is a sulphur-plasma lamp designed for use in the film industry. Its strengths are the avoidance of light scatter and its flicker-free light, the spectrum of which is similar to that of the sun. With its low unit-weight, the FALCON SPELIA Shot is a brilliant tool for professional lighting technicians on film sets.

Light + Building 2014 Review

The new SPELIA dazzles during successful trade fair appearance

A&O Technology drew a positive balance from the  Light + Building 2014. With the presentation of its new lighting system, SPELIA, A&O was extending its German-made FALCON® range. This also greatly enhanced the ambience of the booth.

„Thanks to the large number of visitors we received, we can certainly say that our appearance at this year‘s Light + Building was absolutely worth it. We were able to enjoy many interesting discussions and make new contacts. Our new product, SPELIA, also got off to great start,“ was how A&O Technology‘s CEO, Marco Niedermeier, summed up the company‘s participation at the international trade fair.

FALCON® SPELIA represents a revolution in lighting technology. It is modelled on the sun and in fact comes closer to natural sunlight than any other artificial source of light. It combines the highest level of energy efficiency with the sustainability of sulphur plasma technology and is capable of up to 50,000 operating hours. The FALCON® SPELIA is suitable for a wide range of locations including architectural installations, film sets, greenhouses, streets, factories, offices and even residential buildings

The clearly structured trade fair stand was devoted to two principal themes. Two thirds of the booth were designed to serve the firm‘s corporate identity, whilst the remaining third was dedicated to the latest star in the A&O firmament: the FALCON® SPELIA. The result was a clearly defined booth that was also – thanks to the skilful use of colour – at once stylish and inviting.

The latest member of A&O Technology‘s International Sales team, Maros Kohut, was delighted by the positive feedback the company received at the trade fair. He is bringing 15 years of experience in the lighting sector to his new role of Senior Manager International Sales as well as being responsible for key accounts in East and Central Europe.

The 2014 edition of the Light + Building trade fair registered record numbers of visitors as well as exhibitors, reports Messe Frankfurt GmbH. In fact, over 210,000 visitors attended this year‘s show.

Many thanks to all who took the time to look in at our stand.

A&O Creative stage-managed Atlantis, The Palm for a spectacular New Year's Eve

With the huge New Year’s celebrations at Dubai’s leading entertainment resort, which included a 360° facade illumination with searchlights, A&O Technology participated in a record-breaking production, as the accompanying firework display involved the use of some 500,000 individual fireworks! This was one Arabian night in which the sense of expressions like ‘sea of light’ and ‘riot of colour’ became abundantly obvious. With a six-minute lightshow, Dubai celebrated the arrival of the New Year at the Atlantis Resort in incomparable style. Accompanied by the Atlantis’s legendary Sandance Music Festival, the event drew partygoers in their thousands from all over the world.

A&O Creative designed a lavish illumination with lush colours adorning the facade and moving searchlights on the roofs that could be seen for miles around. This was the first time that FALCON 6000 CMY searchlights had been employed as wall washes and they proved fully convincing in the role.

A&O Creative designed spectacular lighting Show for Doha National Day

It was time in Doha for Qatar to celebrate its own National Day. It does so on 18 December each year to celebrate its independence, this being the day Sheik Jassem bin Mohamed bin Thani, the founder of the state of Qatar, took power in the year 1878. The location of the installation for the National Day illumination was Old Palm Trees Island, which lies some 800 metres from the corniche lining Doha Bay in the Persian Gulf. This was the first time fireworks and moving searchlights had been installed in this rather cramped location and it required A&O Technology working closely with the pyrotechnicians.

The highlight of the show was the first use of the ‘Double Twister’ composed of 7,000W searchlights flanked by fans of light spread by FALCON 6000 CMY searchlights.

A&O Creative bathed Burj Khalifa in Expo colours

Dubai is the official host for Expo 2020. For the first time ever the world’s fair is held in an Arab country. This was announced on 28 November. To mark the announcement, A&O Creative, the creative department of Technology, bathed the 828-metre-high Burj Khalifa from top to bottom in blue and white light using xenon searchlights. This was also the first time the tower had been lit from all three sides to create a 360° illumination.

The expo colours gave way at the end of the show to the colours of the national flag, to mark the United Arab Emirates’ National Day.

A&O Technology marks Torsten Frings’ farewell to professional football with an unforgettable light show

"My last game in green" ran the legend - the player retiring being German association football legend Torsten Frings, and the green, the colours of Werder Bremen, the club he had served with distinction for almost 18 years. The venue - where else? - was Bremen's Weser Stadium, and A&O Technology, as technical service provider, had prepared an unforgettable multimedia light show to mark the occasion. LED/hybrid searchlights and a laser projection at the Weser Tower lit the way to the Chilli Club, where the exclusive after-show party was held. The light show, designed and programmed specially for the occasion by A&O Creative, was implemented using high-powered searchlights from the company's own range as well as laser projectors.

New corporate design: colour & diversity. Unbelievable moments in focus.

September 2013, Bremen, Germany – New logo and corporate design illustrate the successful development and dynamic growth of A&O Technology

In 2013, we decided to re-launch the corporate design of A&O Technology to reflect the dynamic way in which the enterprise has grown.

The new, modern and fresh brand identity underlines wherever it appears - be it our web site, a brochure, commercial stationery... - the many-facetted nature of the company, the quality of the goods and services that it offers, and the breadth of expertise it brings to the task. Not to mention its creativity!

A&O Technology today, with its wealth of ideas and expertise, is ideally placed to play a part in shaping the future of the lighting industry. All of this finds deliberate expression in our new branding,” says Marco Niedermeier, CEO.

The new logo has a far higher recognition value than the one it replaces: the font is striking and contemporary; it emphasizes at once the continuity and ethos of innovation of the family enterprise.

“We stand for endless possibilities and unbelievable moments,” says Ljiljana Jurkovic, Manager Events & Projects. The new slogan “Lights to remember”, which, whilst not forming part of the logo, will be introduced as and where appropriate into the firm’s image communication, is designed also to give voice to this claim.

A&O Technology shows the way to Mekka - Where time is still sacred

Ninety kilometres from the Red Sea lies the birthplace of Mohammed, the prophet of Islam: Mecca. And in the heart of the Holy City, a giant golden crescent moon on the Makkah Clock Royal Tower in the Abraj Al-Bait complex dominates the scene. By night, when the believers are called to prayer, the cradle of the half moon opens and gliding beams of light climb heavenwards. Twenty FALCON STATIC ARC white 7000 watt and twenty-eight SKY FALCON ARC white 1200 searchlights have since the beginning of Ramadan in July 2012 been showing pilgrims the way. For none are more intimately bound to time than Muslims in Mecca.

Events-Review - A&O supports the Kaiser Trophy

A&O Technology supports 30th Kaiser Trophy with Franz Beckenbauer in Bad Griesbach

A&O Technology this year lent a full measure of brilliance to the Kaiser Trophy, a celebrity golf tournament organized annually to raise money for the Franz Beckenbauer Foundation. In all, eight FALCON CMY LED-VIDEO luminaires in front of the Erdinger mobile alpine chalet cast their beams over the course and beyond, attracting the attention even of those far from the event location. In addition to animations, the video panels of the hybrid searchlights displayed the logos of sponsors, as their xenon beams glided over the grass.

The crowning moment, literally, of the light show was the appearance of a crown of light in the sky above the course – a reference, of course, not only to the event but also its patron, ‘the Kaiser’, Franz Beckenbauer, from whom it takes its name. The lighting design for the Kaiser Trophy 2012 was the work of Peter Heybutzki of A&O Vision.

Since several weeks the 6th season of Germanys Pop Idol is shown on German TV channel RTL. For lighting design of this season mo2 design was engaged. And they choosed the light technical equipment of A&O: 16 FALCON FLOWER 3kW, one FALCON BEAM 3kW and 24 Target Spezial were integrated into the stage design of the new Pop Idol 2009 season and were setting now impressive lighting effects at the motto shows.

Entertainment - The X-Factor - TV-Show, NL

In April 2009 the new season of the Dutch casting show „The X-Factor“ started. Chain TV ordered 8 FALCON xenon searchlights of A&O Technology Germany, which were equipped with the UNIVERSAL kit options UNIVERSAL FLOWER and UNIVERSAL BEAM. So the lighting designer Christian Ross can free choose between the different lighting effects single-beam oor multi-beam by easy and quick exchange of the different heads. The show takes place at Mediapark Hilversum - the Netherlands, one of the biggest studios in Europe.

Product News - A&O meets G-LEC

The exhibition Prolight+Sound 2009 in Frankfurt am Main/Germany ended at the first April weekend. This year A&O Technology was at place for the whole 4 days of exhibition with a cooperation booth with the Slovakian distribution partner Leader Light and stood under the bright star of further development.

A&O meets G-LEC
The surprising top novelty was integrated impressively at the booth of A&O. Themed „A&O meets G-LEC“ A&O Technology presented a part of the LED Video systems of the German LED manufacturer G-LEC. With immediate effect the whole stocks of G-LEC is available at A&O Germany rental park. Immediately the transparent LED video display systems Phantom 30, Phantom 60 and Solaris for entertainment-, TV- and architectural applications are available for rent. Feel free to contact us! We would be happy to make you an individual offer tailored to your needs.

One more highlight at A&O’s booth was the first presentation of the extremely high-power FALCON FLOWER 6000W HMI. With the application of the 6000W HMI illuminant in stead of a xenon lamp, the developers of alpha one achieved a more higher light output than with a comparable FLOWER xenon fixture. Therefore A&O offers a bright FALCON FLOWER as it previously did not yet exist.

New exclusive ROSCO Super Gel
Furthermore the FALCON 6000 CMY now is equipped first-time with real CMY colour intensity. The CMY super gel “A&O Realcolour” is produced by ROSCO exclusively for the FALCON range and is a real colour mixing system based on film. In terms of colour it is exactly edited at the colour range of  the  OSRAM xenon metal halide lamps of the product series of XBO and Xstage. Thus FALCON 6000 CMY has a real CMY colour reproduction in steps of 10% with perpetuation of the fundamental colours (Brightening steps from 100% to 10%  without base colour deviation).

Modular LED system for professional indoor applications
On this years exhibition A&O attained a very high interest with exclusive modular LED systems. Different indoor versions for professional home applications like in bars, restaurants or hotels will be offered by A&O inclusive complete component-consulting. Wether in-wall dimmer, DMX control, Cue-Server or remote control, the customer gets from A&O the entire modular system including driver components, which will be arranged to his individual needs. And that all for a comparatively more favourable price in spite of excellent quality.

We thank all the visitors, for the time you have devoted, for visiting our booth. We are pleased to the positive acceptance and we’ll be there for you gladly.

Joyful fans from all over the world lined the sealed-off Bundesstraße 1 in Dortmund as the strident, colourful, internationally-manned floats transformed the B1 in the Ruhr metropolis into the ‘Highway of Love’.

Dortmund, 19. Juli 2008. Lauter, länger, mehr live: Die Loveparade 2008 steht für eine Musikveranstaltung der Superlative. Nun kommt ein weiteres Glanzlicht hinzu: das COLOSSEUM OF LIGHT – THE MATRIX OF LOVE des Star-Lichtarchitekten Gert Hof.

Book tip - STAGE DESIGN by Ralph Larmann

by Ralph Larmann or the power of a moment

Limburg, September 2007
For the first time daab publishing, specializing in illustrated books on design, architecture and photography, brings out in book form a photo documentation of widely impressive international stage productions: The book, STAGE DESIGN, by Ralph Larmann, a German author, photographer and journalist, documents thirty productions in the fields of concert touring, opera, theatre, special events, and tv-shows.

Vivid photographs having great emotional impact of the selected shows and productions are the essence of STAGE DESIGN. Larmann mainly focuses on the depiction of various stage designs in their entirety. Having a broad definition of stage, the author presents both the scenery details and the bare stage with aesthetic precision. Nearly all productions are set up in this way. The wide variety of stage perspectives and captured moments shown is so imperceptivity woven in a single thread or as one thematic whole that even the people responsible for the productions or the people who have seen the event may not realize its wholeness. The range of events portrayed includes stage designs from classical theatres, brilliant operas, colossal tour productions or the illumination of a city’s skyline.

The coffee-table book STAGE DESIGN is the first of its kind to cover a wide range of stage productions. Not only is it a valuable object for art photography devotees; it is also a unique historic document and constitutes a veritable source of inspiration for everyone dealing with scenery, stage designs and shows. STAGE DESIGN draws its actuality from the fact that 27 of the projects portrayed have been performed between 2005 and 2007 or will be shown within the coming months. Among others, Ralph Larmann presents the following productions:

Theatre: Eraritjaritjaka by Heiner Goebbels
Opera: Turandot, Veltins-Arena, Gelsenkirchen
Il Trovatore, Floating Stage, Bregenz
Musicals: Disneys DER KÖNIG DER LÖWEN/ Disney’s THE LION KING, Theater im Hafen, Hamburg
We Will Rock You, Musical Dome, Cologne
High Fidelity, Colonial Theatre, Boston; Imperial Theatre, NYC
Concert Touring: George Michael, 25 LIVE
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Stadium Arcadium World Tour
Bon Jovi – Have A Nice Day
Depeche Mode – Touring The Angel
Rolling Stones – A Bigger Bang
U2 – Vertigo
Robbie Williams – Close Encounters
TV-Shows: Pop Idol 2006 – Finals, Cologne
Eurovision Song Contest 2007, Helsinki, Finland
Special Events : Opening Ceremony Of The 15th Asian Games, Doha – Qatar
XX. World Youth Day 2005, Cologne
Afrika! Afrika!
Sky Arena, Frankfurt

The composition, perspective and brilliant colour of the captured scenes in STAGE DESIGN are impressive, spectacular and sensational. Details about name, location, date of the productions, as well as names of the persons responsible for set, stage, lighting, and video design are cited in the book.

The corresponding website offers additional information on STAGE DESIGN and the productions presented in the book. Besides the visual emotions the author’s performance includes specialist knowledge giving a new dimension to his artwork. At the same time STAGE DESIGN mirrors the author’s know-how, creative power and his love for his work and his projects.

Ralph Larmann has been an active photographer and journalist in the show, fair, and event business since 1989. As an author, he writes articles for music and specialist magazines, as well as for artists and publishing companies. Among others, Larmann’s exhibitions on event and concert photography have made him known to a wide audience. With the first edition of STAGE DESIGN he ventures into a new area of art documentation. In particular, he intends to set up a serial documentation of stage designs using his photographs built around a holistic aesthetic concept.

Events - Special Olympics Shanghai 2007

Premiere for the Special Olympics in Asia - A&O Technology supports lighting designer Bob Dickinson A magnificent opening ceremony attended by over 70,000 spectators and almost 7,500 athletes from 165 nations got the Special Olympics off to a spectacular start on the 2nd October in Shanghai. It was the first time the games for people with intellectual disabilities had been staged in Asia. This was the largest sporting event ever hosted in the Middle Kingdom and served also as a dress rehearsal for the Olympic Games, which will be held in Peking in 2008. Don Mischer conceived and produced the sensational opening show to which "Bob" Dickinsons intoxicating lighting design lent additional magic. For the equipping and implementation of the show, the internationally celebrated lighting designer relied inter alia upon A&O Lighting of Oyten, Dickinson and A&O Technology having worked together successfully on major projects on previous occasions, including the Super Bowl and the Grammy and Oscar presentation ceremonies. For this production, the A&O team installed a total of forty-four FALCON® 7 kW searchlights in Shanghai Stadium – under somewhat trying circumstances.

A&O delivered 77 alpha one FALCON BEAM 3,000W luminaires for the show, which were arranged in four concentric circles with an external diameter of twelve metres in all. Behind this ring formation, 16 alpha one FALCON™ BEAM 7,000W luminaires were arranged in a line, whilst 90 SKY FALCON ARC colour 1,200W luminaires were used to illuminate the front facade and the interior courtyard. A&O Technology also supplied the requisite controllers for the system, as well as 30 square metres of VersaTILE LED panels complete with media server and media content.

A&Os in-house media department, A&O Vision, carried out the technical planning, visualisation and pre-programming of the show in collaboration with Gert Hof Productions. The initial preparations were conducted by Jens Probst in the A&O Vision studio in Oyten, but for the remaining stages, the scene changed to A&O Vision mobile studio, where, for the first time, the new real-time visualisation software ESP Vision was used.

On the evening of the party, the internal courtyard of the Russian embassy was a glowing red, whilst the VersaTILE LED panels playing content calculated to enhance the overall ambience proved a real eye catcher in the embassy interior. As another element in the show, Hof caused two cranes, standing "Unter den Linden" ("Under the Lime Trees" – a famous avenue in the centre of Berlin), to fuse in the red light – symbolizing the reconciliation of East and West. The highlight of the evening was the lightshow shortly after midnight, followed by a performance with changing images that ran into the early hours of the morning. The show, which lit up the night sky and could be seen for miles around, delighted not only guests and organizers attending the party but also onlookers throughout the German capital.

The delivery and installation of the lighting equipment is arranged by A&O Lighting Technology GmbH from Oyten near Bremen.
